Safety Tips: After rain this walk will be very muddy especially on the ascent on the return. Wear decent boots and take a walking stick.
A walk from Reasty Bank down to Whisperdales, which as the name suggests is a very tranquil place. The walk can be muddy, however its easily negotiable with a walking stick. A great walk to take time-out and have a peaceful walk. There is a moderate climb on the return to the car park which is free of charge.
The Whisperdales Walk
From Middlesbrough follow the A171 to Whitby and then follow it out of Whitby towards Scarborough. Follow the A171 past Robin Hoods Bay and Flyingdales and as the road reaches a bank, half way up look for a right turning which is Helwath Road. Keep ahead at a crossroads and then to left heading for Reasty Bank. Park at the Reasty Bank car park.

From the car park cross the road and head onto a gravel track opposite.

Follow the gravel track opposite the car park
Keep ahead on the track which goes downhill into the forest.

Soon the track leaves the forest into Whisperdales.

Soon you will come to a farmhouse to your right. Head onwards following the course of a stream to your left.

Follow the track keeping to the left of the stream
Keep following the track until the track changes sides and the stream is on your right.

The track now goes through meadowland and soon comes to a gate.

The path again goes through meadows with great views all around and you can understand why they call it Whisperdales- its so calm and peaceful.

Soon you arrive at a farm and walk past it over two footbridges over fords.

Straight after the last footbridges turn right and follow the lane ahead.

Walk up the lane until you pass red roofed houses and come to a gate with a signpost pointing diagonally.

Look for sign to the right
Go through the gate to your right and head upwards which can be muddy initially.
Climb the muddy track
When you emerge briefly cross a track and follow the track diagonally again.

Soon you will emerge at a forest clearing - take the branch to the right.

When you emerge on the forest track turn left and follow this track
Turn left and follow the forest track
Follow the track as it bends to the right and to the right again
Follow the track as it bends to the right twice
Soon you will emerge on the track you started the walk on. Turn left and head back to the carpark
