A walk in Bronte country - theres definitely a literary theme to the walk. Walking over fields and farm roads and then on the boundaries of the Queen Ethelburgas Academy and the Thorpe Underwood estate. Parking is found outside a blocked access to the estate and is free.
The Thorpe Underwood walk
From Middlesbrough follow the A19 to the M1 southbound. Then look for a left turn off the M1 which is junction 47 and the A59. Follow this road and look for the second main turn off on the left towards Green Hammerton. Look for a right turn signposted to Thorpe Underwood. Parking is found to your right at a gated exit from the Thorpe Underwood Estate.

From the parking spot, head left at a clear signpost to Green Hammerton which is a stones throw from where you have parked your car.

This path follows a high bricked wall to your left. Look for a footbridge to your right and cross over it

Follow the waymark diagonally over the field heading towards two oak trees.

Look for a waymark on a gate and follow this path with a hedge on your left.

Head to the right at the end of this field and turn left and cross a footbridge.
Go over the footbridge on your left
Follow the field path keeping the hedge to your right.

Go over a stile at the end of the field and then over another stile and a footbridge with a stile at the end

Follow the field with the hedge to your right and cross over a footbridge and a stile at the end.

Follow the field near a small wood to the corner of the field and then cross another small footbridge.

Head towards some farm buildings and look for a path that skirts to the left of the farm buildings and then go through a metal gate at the end

Turn left and follow the gravel track until you come to a sign for Pool Spring Farm
Head onto the road towards Pool Spring Farm
Follow this road for three quarters of a mile until it turns to the left towards the farm. Look for a gate to the right.

Folllow the path to the left again and its turns and keep on the main which meanders and then goes straight ahead through gates.

Eventually the path bends to the left- keep straight ahead through the gate and through another gate heading towards a tarmac road

Head though a hand gate and onto the road ahead.

The road goes past houses and then you have the high brick wall to the your left

Eventually you emerge onto the main road. Turn left and carefully follow this road as it bends back to the parking spot passing the entrance to Queen Ethelburgas Academy
